Straight Laces... with Daniel R

First impressions can be tricky. Daniel R was a last minute addition to the Lisbon roster, found by my assistant Andriy the evening before in order to fill two last minute cancellations. (The Lisbon issue, was by the way, the most cancel-prone issue so far.)
Anyway, I hadn't had a chance to chat with him before we shot so it was a meeting especially ruled by first impressions. Firstly, he had glasses, but not in a geek chic sort of way; rather in a 'I need them to see' way. Secondly, he said he was a financial controller, which didn't sound all that exciting. And thirdly, as we started shooting, he was the most careful and deliberate guy I'd ever seen with the way he changed outfits. He folded, hung and packed with such meticulousness, never letting any item touch the ground or get even slightly at risk of a wrinkle. One on hand it was pretty cute, but on the other I imagined that he's probably impossible to live, for he'd be forever picking up after you and tutting at you for forgetting to use a coaster.
As shooting carried on, I started to notice some things that shattered my first impressions. When he would change outfits, he wasn't shy at all about stripping in public. There was even a spot where there was a huge pillar he could have stood behind for discretion, but he chose to change right in the street, So, even though we didn't plan to do any underwear or even shirtless pics, it seemed not out of the question to ask.
This seemingly straight-laced boy with glasses had no issue with getting into his underwear, on a busy Sunday when the streets were filled with both tourists and locals on their way to or from church. It was such a pleasure to spend time with him, a guy with no pretence, just enjoying life. I wish I could have spent more time with him. He's still kind of a nerd, but not too much. Kind of shy, but not too much. Kind of sweet, but not too sweet!
